
Captain George H. DeMarrero Jr., 74, of Camp Springs, KY., died Feb. 18, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Edgewood. He was a retired river captain. He worked as Commodore, Master and Pilot for the Delta Queen Steamboat Company. Captain was the 5th generation Master-Pilot on steamboats. He also served as master or pilot on 80 different vessels up to 10, 500 H.P.. Captain retired as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. The river and his family were his life. Survivors include his wife, Connie DeMarrero, of 32 years; his son Keith DeMarrero of Vero Beach, FL. And daughter Kim DeMarrero of Byhalia, MS. and preceded in death by his son Mark DeMarrero. Captain had one sister, Senator Beverly Marrero of Memphis, TN; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews and one granddaughter, Heather (DeMarrero) Willoughby of Murfreesboro, TN. Visitation 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 with funeral services following at the Alexandria Funeral Home Alexandria, KY.
