Byron Nelson

Byron Harold Nelson, age 91, of Alexandria, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas. Mr. Nelson proudly served in the Army during WWII. During part of his time in service he was captured in Germany and taken as a P.O.W.  Corporal Byron Nelson was a decorated soldier and earned the Bronze Star Medal and Two Purple Hearts. After his military service he went on to serve for 34yrs as a Federal Protective Officer for the US Government working in California, Chicago, Atlanta, and Cincinnati. He was a lifelong member of the Campbell Co. V.F.W. Post 3205, the D.A.V., and the KY Colonels. He also enjoyed attending the First Assembly of God Church in Alexandria.  Byron  is survived by his wife of 55yrs, Carolyn (nee Bradford) Nelson; son, Stephen Nelson; grandson, Bryan Nelson; great-grandson, Connor Nelson; three brothers, Charles, William, and Garland Nelson; sister, Vivian Sayers. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service immediately following at Alexandria Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Alexandria Cemetery.  Memorial Donations are suggested to:  First Assembly of God, 9126 Alexandria Pike, Alexandria, KY 41001 or Campbell Co. V.F.W. Post 3205, 8261 Alexandria Pike, Alexandria, KY 41001.
