George Shanks

George Shanks, voracious reader and renowned baritone, died June 13, 2018. He was a retired Machinist from Fischer Specialty Manufacturing and lifelong member of First Twelve Mile Baptist Church. An inscrutable man, those who thought they knew him, didn’t.  Those who did know him, wished they knew him better. He was a lover of plants, animals and the occasional person.  He is loved and missed by his wife, Frankie Avon (nee Painter); his children, Wyatt Ray and daughter-in-law Maria, Wendy Renee, Wayde Ryan and daughter-in-law Glenna C. Herald; his grandchildren, Travis and Laura Shanks, Kelly (nee Shanks) and Andy Hart, and Chris and Denise Shanks; and eight great-grandchildren. Services are at the convenience of the family. No visitation. Memorials are suggested to First Twelve Mile Baptist Church, 3288 Oneonta Rd. California, KY 41007. Alexandria Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

  1. Look around at what George left the Shanks family, as well as others, and find only unrivaled beauty and positivity. Let that be what leads us into the future, as we inheret what he has left us with.

  2. Know of our prayers in this time of loss. George was one of the best leaders that i have had the blessing of working with in Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief. I always knew the work would be done with excellence when George led ateam, and he always left those to whom he ministered better than he found them. I counted him as a friend and Brother in Christ. Praying that God covers you with grace until we see our Dear Brother again around God's throne. George will be missed by those who had the privilege of being counted among his friends.
