John David "Dave" Obel
John David Dave Obel, 63, of Cold Spring, KY,
passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014, in Edgewood, KY. He was preceded in
death by his parents, John and Virginia Obel. He is survived by his wife of 35
years, Shirley Bryan Obel; his brother, Mike (Joy) Obel, sister, Billie Jeanne
Obel and her children, Matt and Krissi. Dave loved golfing, hunting, UK sports,
Reds baseball and coaching basketball at Calvary Christian and Campbell County
High Schools. He was a member of the Sports Hall of Fame at Simon Kenton High
School where he lettered in all sports. Dave was Basketball Player of the Year
in 1969 in the Ninth Region. He was also drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Dave played professional softball for the Cincinnati Rivermen. Dave touched the
lives of many during his employment as a Funeral Director for Dobbling, Muehlenkamp
and Erschell Funeral Homes. Dave was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM 8:00 PM Friday, September 26, 2014 at
the Alexandria Funeral Home, 325 Washington St. Alexandria, KY. Funeral services
will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 4410
Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076. Interment will be in the Oakland
Cemetery, Grants Lick, KY. Memorials
may be made to Backpack Meals, C/O Grant's Lick Baptist Church, 941 Clay Ridge
Road, Alexandria, KY 41001 or to Lighthouse Ministry, C/O Oak Ridge Baptist
Church, 6036 Clubhouse Drive, Latonia Lakes, KY 41015.

ReplyDeleteIt breaks my heart to hear about Dave. I still remember the first time I met him and he shook my hand with that big paw and a wry smile. He was so good to me during the time we worked together. I will miss him. Heaven is sweeter because he there. Love and prayers to you and the family.

ReplyDeleteShirley it was with much sadness hearing of Dave's passing. He was a fine person and I am greatfull for knowing him. I apologize for not being able to make the visitation. I know mom would be sad as well if she were hear as well, I know she counted on the guys alot when she lived above the funeral home. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and family.

Shirley and family, we were so shocked and saddened this morning when we heard the news about Dave. I know that all of his golfing buddies will surely miss him.
