Lucy Cryer Maddy


Lucy Cryer Maddy, 85, passed away on December 21, 2013 in Fort Thomas, KY. She was an associate member of Alexandria Fair. Member of the Women's VFW Aux and several other senior citizen clubs. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; Daughters, Mary Ann and Melody; Son, Larry; Grandson Ricky Kramer. She is survived by her son, Dennis Maddy; Daughters, Linda Kramer, Wanda Maddy and Donna Holtz; 11 Grandchildren, 12 Great grandchildren; Sister in law, Ella Maddy; Special friend, Caroyn Nerl.  Visitation will be held Friday, December 27, 2013 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Alexandria Funeral Home. Harold Eugene Moore

Harold Eugene Moore, 91, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at his home in Mentor, KY. Harold was born in Campbell County on January 9, 1922 to Lena and Gus Eshman. Lena died five days later and Harold was adopted by Frazier and Velma Moore. He graduated from Georgetown College and received his Master's Degree from Xavier University. His teaching career began at age 19 at Mount Auburn School in Pendleton County, from there he went to teach at A. J. Jolly and Campbell County High School. He also taught in New Richmond and Mariemont, OH and at Northern Kentucky University. He served in WW II in the U.S. Army Air Corps in India.  He was pastor of Licking Valley Baptist Church for 28 years and East Dayton Baptist Church for 3 years. He was a member of Mentor Baptist Church of Mentor, KY. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Matilda Smith Moore; a son, Robert “Bob” H. Moore and a brother, William Eshman. Harold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jo-Ann Erisman Moore; two daughters, Julianne (Gary) Brown and Jacqueline (Mark) DeVine;  6 grandchildren, Rob (Laurie) Moore, Cindy Moore, Bobbi Jo (Gary) Farmer, Nathan Brown, Drew and Sam DeVine;  6 great grandchildren, Jonathan, Bobby and Brent Moore, Chandler and Phoebe Farmer and Kaleb Ellison; a daughter in law, Joyce Moore Anderson. Virginia Thatcher (nee Allen), 95, of Hohenwald, TN, formerly of Alexandria, KY & Ft. Lauderdale, FL, passed away peacefully Friday, December 13, 2013 at home in Hohenwald, TN. Virginia was a retired teacher at Dale Elementary School in Highland Heights, KY and also taught in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Thatcher. Edith Lois Mclawhorn formerly of Greenville, NC died on Friday, December 13th at Bridgepoint Care Center in Florence, KY. She was employed at Pitt County Memorial Hospital for 25 years. David A. Steffen, 61, of Alexandria, died peacefully at his home on November 30, 2013. He was the owner of David A. Steffen Contractors and a farmer. He was a member of the Campbell County Historical Society and a lifetime member of Saint Mary’s Parish. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, history and finding treasures in the dirt. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Peter Steffen. Philip L. Johnson

Philip L. Johnson of Alexandria went to be with the Lord November 18th 2013. He was born May 7th 1938 in Addyston, Ohio to parents Roderick H. Johnson and Kathryn Wurzelbacher Johnson. Phil was a retiree of General Motors and a member of High Point Baptist Church for 40 yrs. He is survived by his wife Norma Jean Minton Johnson whom he married in 1968. His sons Philip Todd (Heather) and Rodrick H. (Angela), sisters Mary Etta Gray and Ida Burford and five grandchildren: Philihp Israel, Chloe, Mattiah, Isaiah, Faith and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Donald, and Howard; sisters Norma Bauer and Iola Gudgeon, special friend and brother-in-law Don Burford and precious grandson Ty Johnson. Eldred Houben


Eldred Houben, 88, passed away on November 16, 2013 at his home in Highland Heights, KY. He was a graduate of Campbell County High School. He worked as an electrician for the Baldwin Piano and Organ Company and later worked for LeBlond Machine Tool Company. He loved traveling and camping with his family through the United States. Eldred was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher and played on the bowling team. Eldred also served his country in the US Army. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Kathryn Houben. He is survived by his brothers, Murlen C. (Betty) and Norman L. (Yvonne) Houben; sister, Laura AtLee (Ed); cousin, Melanie Brossart; along with many nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews. Ronnie Lee Tackett, age 63, of Newport, Kentucky passed away on Monday, November 4th 2013. Ron was born in Pikeville, Kentucky in 1949. He dedicated 21 years of his life to the United States Marine Corp and was always known as an avid reader, writer and woodworker. He also greatly enjoyed working as a school bus driver in Saline County, Kansas and Campbell County, Kentucky prior to retirement. Ron is survived by his three sons, Preston, Nathan and Jason Tackett, his mother Shirley Jenkins, his sisters Bonnie Thompson and Linda Tackett, brothers Larry and Jerry Tackett, and five grandchildren. Margie Rapp Alford

Margie Rapp Alford, 61, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. She was self-employed as the business owner of Sprinkler Inspection Services and “The Hub” Warehouse in Covington, KY. She was also instrumental in developing “R-3” services of Covington which include the Re-Use Center and services which aid in renewing and restoring productive life to those struggling with recovery from addictions and law enforcement. Margie was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church, Alexandria where she was involved with women’s ministry and organizing and leading Bible study groups. Margie’s cheerful welcome and fellowship could always be expected at the coffee bar she managed at Church on Sunday mornings. All who knew Margie remember her as a woman of faith, of hope and of love. She always thought of others and put their needs ahead of her own. Margie was the beloved wife of Ron Alford, loving daughter of Josephine and the late Charles C. Edward White, 87, of Alexandria, KY, passed away Monday, November 4, 2013. Mr. White was a WW II Army Veteran, he was a home builder with Roy White & Sons. They built and operated the RECA Roller Rink in Alexandria and also built many homes in the area. He was a member of Saint Mary Seniors. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Roy & Alice White and a brother, Don White. He is survived by his wife, Armella “Rusty” White; a daughter, Lisa (Bob) Moser; 3 sons, Anthony “Fritz” (Char) White, James (Donna) White and Paul (Laura) White; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Wilfred F. Sandfoss, age 83, of Camp Springs, KY passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Lee County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Beattyville, KY. He was a Korean War Army Veteran and a member of the Campbell County VFW Post 3205. He is survived by his two brothers, Ralph (Virginia) and Ferdinand Sandfoss; sister, Margaret Sandfoss; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gregory C. Heringer, 63, of Melbourne, passed away on October 2, 2013 at his residence. He was a Maintenance Director for Lakeside Nursing Home in Highland Heights for over 30 yrs and had worked at the Holy Family Home in Melbourne since 2005. Mr. Heringer is survived by his wife of 27 yrs, Marsha Merrill Heringer; daughter, Gina (Craig) Rittinger; 2 grandsons, Joshua and Noah Rittinger; 2 brothers, Alford and Joseph Heringer; sister, Toni Ann Tyree; numerous nieces and nephews. Bernard Joseph Good, 81, of Alexandria, KY, died October, 2, 2013 at Saint Elizabeth Hospice Edgewood. Bernie was a graduate of Campbell County High School and was a member of the band. He was a Navy Veteran and an Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict; he was also a member Campbell County VFW Post #3205, Military Order of the Cooties, Disabled American Veterans, Teamster Local #661 of Cincinnati, OH, Knights of Columbus Fr. Frank Gerald Poe Sr., 74, of Highland Heights, passed away on September 8, 2013 at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, KY. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and also served in Korea as well. He retired from the Army after serving for 22 years. He then retired from the Post Office. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sussannah. Robert G. Hofstetter


Robert G. Hofstetter, age 72 from Grant’s Lick passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013.  Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Hofstetter on November 6, 2011.  He is survived by his 3 daughters, Phila (Joey) Jackson of Killeen TX, Beverly (Jerry) Klein, Alexandria KY, and Robin Hofstetter of Covington KY.  Grandchildren, Micheal Hofstetter, Shawnette Simmons, Alex Klein and Maggie Klein.  Great Grandchildren, Chantz Curtis, Blake Hofstetter and Jaxon Simmons.  Bob was born December 31, 1940 to the late Bill and Hilda (Kerns) Hofstetter.  Preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Eddie and Larry Hofstetter.  Survived by his two sisters, Carolyn (Steve) Hellmann and Marilyn (Frank) Gilbert.   Bob retired from NuMaid Margarine.  He was a member of the Delizards Social Club, Campbell County Bow Hunters, volunteered at the Southern Campbell Fire Department and was known for his Saturday side jobs when he butchered beef and mowed lawns.  He enjoyed hunting, coaching softball, quad riding and working on the farm.  After retirement he enjoyed painting art work.  Memorials suggested to Robert Hofstetter Memorial Fund, at any Bank of Kentucky location or mail to 9932 Barrs Branch Rd., Alexandria KY 41001. The fund will benefit the Activities Program – Liberty of Riverside Nursing Home. Charles “Charlie” Lee Hatcher, 90, of Alexandria, KY passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at his home. Charlie was a retired agent for Commonwealth Insurance; he was an Army veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict; a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church of Highland Heights, a former member and officer of the Alexandria Fair Board, Campbell County Cooperative Extension Service, KY Livestock Improvement Association and former president of the State 4-H Leader Council. Judith Kramer


Judith Morrison Kramer, 72, Alexandria, passed away Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood.  Judy was born in Covington on October 21, 1940, the daughter of Edward and Ruth Morrison.  After graduating from Notre Dame Academy, Judy married Leroy Kramer, her husband of 52 years, and was a life-long resident of Alexandria.  Along with Leroy, Judy is survived by five children, 19 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, all residents of Campbell County:  Michael and Billie (Cryer) Kramer, and their children Ben, Abigail, Matthew, and Sarah; Steve and Shelly (Koehler) Kramer, and their children Steven, Ashley, Kylie, and Bryce, and grand-children Kenley and Sydney;  James and Kathy (Ritter) Kramer, and their children Paige, Mitch, Molly, and Mason; Julie (Kramer) and Patrick Blair, and their children Max, Christian, and Gabi; and Scott and Beth (Kremer) Kramer and their children Lauren, Luke, Brady, and Gavin.  Judy is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Geller, Florence; and Barbara Tretter, Louisville; and her cousins, Mary Jo Amann and Paul Zint. Judy was active in St. Mary Church, the Red Hat Society, and a charter member of the “J-Club.”  She was among the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, commissioned by Governor Collins in 1983.  Judy was passionate about her family, and a fixture at school and athletic events around the region cheering on her children and grandchildren.  Visitation for Judy Kramer will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 8246 East Main Street, Alexandria.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary.  Memorials requested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and St. Mary Parish.

Sam Baker, 80, of Alexandria, KY, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Saint Elizabeth Edgewood. Sam  retired from Castellini Company and was former  co - owner of Trapp's Sunoco Alexandria, KY, Past President of Northern Kentucky Saddle Club and was the founder of Broom Polo. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Bennett and Lillian Thornton Baker,  two brothers, Blaine and Leyman Baker and a sister, Bernice Prebble. He is survived by a daughter, Sandi (Donnie) Wilder of Alexandria, KY; two sons, Tim (Kathryn) Baker of Boulder, CO and Jeff (Laura) Baker of Alexandria, KY; two sisters, Grace Line of Alexandria, KY and Roberta Weckbach of Covington, KY; one brother, B K Baker of Alexandria, KY; also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Stanley H. Cobb Jr., 79, of Cold Spring, KY, passed away on July 10, 2013 at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, KY. He was best known for playing "Santa Claus" for 30 years, and owning S&S Catering for 30 years. He was also a butcher and a manager of Thom McAn Shoes. Stanley was a member of Christian Tabernacle Church in Newport and active with the Alexandria Fair Board. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Shirley (Cline) Cobb (2012), and  parents Stanley and Claudia Cobb. He is survived by 3 daughters, Tina Cobb of Alexandria, KY, Connie Cobb of Pigeon Forge, TN and Cindy Cobb of Hillsboro, OH; one son, Tim Cobb of Kodak, TN; 4 grandchildren, Kristina  McQueen, Casey Fife, Michael Cobb and Ann Marie Cobb. Ruth E. Smith, 93, of Grant's Lick, KY, went peacefully home on Friday, July 5, 2013. Ruth was a member of Grant's Lick Baptist Church, Happy 100's and a retired employee of K-Mart. She was preceded in death by her husband Verner C. "Bud" Smith and son Russ Smith. She is survived by two sons, Robert (Bonnie) Smith of Alexandria, KY and Rick (Kristi) Smith of New Whiteland, IN; two daughters, Carol (Joe) Rodriguez of Mesa, AZ and Patricia (Roland) Wright of Grant's Lick, KY; one sister Lucille Munyan of Jackson, OH; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Janet Ann Ampfer, 79, Passed away at her home in Alexandria, KY.  on  June 26, 2013 She was a member of Saint Joseph Church Cold Spring. She loved to travel and go camping with her family. She was also a member of Good Sam Angels and Vagabond Squares. Johnny Elliot Campbell, 71, passed away at his home in Hebron, KY. Johnny was retired from Roadway after serving there for 30 years. His favorite times were when his children and grandchildren were all home. Loren "Pete" Wilson


Loren "Pete" Wilson, 74, passed away on Sunday, June 9, at his home in California, KY, after a long battle with cancer.  Pete was born on August 29, 1938, in Kenton County, KY.  He was a resident of both California, KY and Milford, OH.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Agnes (Elmore) Wilson and his brother, Guy Wilson.  He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sue Ball Wilson; his daughter Lori Sue (Kyle) Weber; his sister Paula Sue (David) Mullins; his brothers-in-law, Edward Ellis (Nancy) Ball and Louis Allen (Marty) Ball and many nephews and nieces.  Pete graduated from Campbell County High School, received his Bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University and his Master's and Specialist's degrees from Xavier University.  He was a well known educator in Northern Kentucky and Southwestern Ohio.  He culminated his career by serving as Superintendent of Schools in Hammersville, Milford and New Richmond, OH.  He was always available for those in need of help.  He will be dearly missed by his loving family, his many friends and co-workers.  Visitation will be Saturday, June 15, from 10 AM until 2 PM at Alexandria Funeral Home, 325 Washington St., Alexandria, KY.  Memorial Service will be at the Alexandria Funeral Home immediately following the visitation.  Burial will be in Ball Family Cemetery, California, KY.  If so desired, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2808 Reading Rd., Cinti, 45206, or the National Drowning Prevention Foundation, 1 Hall of Fame Dr., Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33316.

Melvin Dickerson


Melvin  Dickerson, 94, of Highland Heights, passed away on  May 20, 2013. Capt. Dickerson retired after serving in the Air Force for 35 years. He served as a WWII pilot and served as flight instructor in Korea and Viet Nam. He was a 33rd degree Mason, retired from GE Evendale and a member of Newport Elks 273. Loretta Harleen Nieman Turner

Loretta Harleen Nieman Turner, 73, of Cold Spring, KY, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at The Highlands of Fort Thomas. Harleen was born June 13, 1939 in Borger, TX but raised in Sand Springs, OK.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy & Harley Cummings, first husband, Carlos Nieman, brother, Oliver Cummings and niece, Missy Jackson.  She leaves behind her husband of 18 years, Dempsey Turner Jr. of Cold Spring, KY, her twin daughters, Lisa (Rich) Biehl of Traverse City, MI and Lori (Charlie) Peterson of Dayton, KY. 2 grandsons, Gage Biehl and Connor Morgan.  One step daughter, Brenda (Larry) Knuckles and four step-sons, Steve, Greg (Lucy), Mark (Sandy) and Dale Turner all from the local KY area.  She leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, sister, Lynda Duhon of LA, brother, Harley Cummings of Tulsa, OK. Known to all as Harleen, she volunteered for many years at the Dayton High School as a band parent plus she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She is and always will be remembered for having a huge heart for the kids at Dayton High School and for her love and compassion for her family and friends.  She was loved by all and called mom by many.  The heaven and universe just got an angel and a bright star that will look over many of us for years to come.  We send our beloved Cherokee princess off by saying gv-ge-yu-hi (I love you). Visitation will be held on Monday, April 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with funeral service immediately following at the Alexandria Funeral Home in Alexandria, KY.
