Lester Wanner

Lester Wanner, 95, Cold Spring, KY, passed away at his home Thursday, February 27, 2014. He was born in Alexandria, KY on October 11, 1918, the son of the late Frederick Wanner and Hattie Willhite Wanner. Les retired after 35 years as a truck driver with Teamsters Local #100 of Cincinnati, OH.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cold Spring and served as Sunday School Secretary for over 60 years. Les enjoyed working on bicycles and small engines, he knitted scarves and was considered to be a local historian. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Hartig Wanner; a son, David Wanner; a brother, Charles Wanner and a sister, Violet Sams. He is survived by his wife, Mary Barrett Wanner; a son, Ronald (Sandi) Wanner; two daughters, Judith (Benny) Frye and Darlene (Dan) Schalk; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two step daughters, Lilla (Fred) Losey and Rebecca (Doug) Orth; one step son, Kenny (Sandy) Riley; nine step grandchildren, sixteen step great grand children; two brothers, Kenneth Wanner And Clayton Wanner; four sisters, Goldie Ruda, Hazel Williams Ruth Wagner and Bonnie Riley.Visitation 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM Sunday, March 9, 2014 with funeral services following at 4:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Cold Spring, 4410 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076. Emma "Norlene" West

Emma “Norlene” West, 76, of Alexandria, KY, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. Mrs. West was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Cold Spring. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Senior Master Sgt. Jeremy Nelson and a brother Charles Kenemann. She is survived by two daughters, Lee Ann (John) Eten and Shandra McCauley; one son, Rodney (Shelly) Nelson; one brother Butch Kenemann; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Norman B. Short


Norman B. Short, 88, of California, KY, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014. He was a WWII Veteran with the United States Coast Guard; a retired crane operator for Cleveland Wrecking Company, Cincinnati, OH & was honored for 50 years with the Operating Engineers of Cincinnati, OH, a member of Mayo Masonic Lodge #198 F&AM and Campbell County VFW Post #3205. Norman is survived by his wife of 66 years Mary Short; three sons, Wayne, Mike and Ron Short; two grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Visitation 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Margaret “Jane” Reis, 81, of Covington, KY, formerly of Alexandria, KY, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014.  Jane was a retired cafeteria worker at Campbell County Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Reis; a daughter, Rosalie Mansfield; two sisters, Joann Williams and Matilda Bezold. Delarita "Rita" Keller


Delarita “Rita” Keller, 73, of Alexandria, KY passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport, KY. Rita retired after 41 years with Au-ve-co of Cold Spring, KY. She was a member of Saint Mary Parish and a volunteer with the Saint Vincent De Paul Society both of Alexandria, KY. She is survived by her husband, John Keller; sister, Mary Ann Meiner; two brothers, Bill Meiner and Samuel Meiner; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Keith W. Arnsparger

Keith Arnsparger, 92, of Alexandria, passed away on  February 12, 2014 at his home. He served his country in France during WWII. Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo and four siblings. He is survived by his, son, Joseph (Betty) Dean; Daughters, Terri (Stephanie) Dean, Donna (Mac) Dean, Clara (Howard) Trapnell; Brother, Jewett Arnsparger; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. George W. Tither

George W. Tither, 94, of Fort Thomas, KY, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014. Retired Owner of Tither Heating & Cooling. He was a WWII Navy veteran. George became a Mason in 1960 and served as Master of Aspen Grove Lodge #397 and Fort Thomas Lodge #808 F. & A.M.; he was installed as the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky in October 1992. George went into the Scottish Rite on November 19, 1987. He was invested with the Rank and Decoration of Knight Commander of the Court of Honor on November 27, 1993 and was coroneted an Inspector General, Honorary of the 33rd degree on November 16, 2013. He was a member of the Alexandria #337 Order of the Eastern Star. He also belonged to the Syrian Shrine Temple, Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Billye Herald Tither and a son, Rusty Tither. He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Webber and Kimberly (William) Margroum; two granddaughters, MacKenzie Margroum and Juleann Williams; one great grandson, Morgan Williams. Della Mae Metcalf, 75, 0f Alexandria, KY., passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Saint Elizabeth Hospice, Ft. Thomas, KY. Della was a loving Nanny to all. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lum L. Angel. She is survived by her husband, Brooks Metcalf; one daughter, Laura (Stuart) Stephens; four sons, David (Kelly), Wade (Tresea), Robert (Helena) and Bill (Carol) Angel; two sisters, Bessie Vest and Lillie Lynch; one brother, Benton Barrett; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. James F. Ogden

James F. “Jim” Ogden, 82, of Fort Thomas, KY, went to his “Heavenly Home” February 4, 2014 from the Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport, KY. Jim was a lawyer for 42 years, moderator of the Northern KY Baptist Assn., board member of Holly Hill Children’s Home and Evergreen Cemetery. He was also a deacon, Sunday school teacher and lay worship leader at the First Baptist Church of Newport, KY. He served in the Army as a rifle instructor during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Darinda Lynn Ogden-Nilsen (former flight attendant for Comair). Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Staggs Ogden; two sisters, Ruth DeJarnette of Fort Thomas and Vera Lee Henson of Southgate, KY; also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be at First Baptist Church, 801 York St, Newport, KY 41071 on Sunday, March 23rd beginning at 3pm.  Memorials are suggested to the church to provide free music lessons for youth.

Henry J. Nehus Jr

Henry J. Nehus Jr., 81, of Cold Spring died on January 31, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas, KY.  Henry served his country in the Korean War and was an active member of VFW post 3205, American Legion post 0219, and the Knights of Columbus. He was retired from P&G and also a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise, brothers, Robert and William. Henry is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; Sons, Robin (Karen), Rodney (Misti); 5 Grandchildren, 3 Great grandchildren; Brother, John; Sisters, Mary Ann Studer, Helen Wendling, Barb Enzweiler, Catherine Sendelbach,  Rose Bacon. Visitation will be held at the Alexandria Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 4th from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 5th, 10:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Camp Springs.
