Octavia “Octa” Stone Jenkins (nee Cann) , 91, of Highland Heights, KY, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Edgewood. Octa was loved by her family, her friends, and her church family.  She was admired for her wit, wisdom, and enduring strength. Octa was a former cook at A.J. Jolly School, California, KY, and retired from the D.A.V. in Cold Spring, KY. She was a member of Mentor Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Axel Stone and Ottis Jenkins; son, Jerry Stone; grandson, Eric Stone; parents, Warren and Anna (Hutchison) Cann; siblings, Mildred Norris, Gladys Cummins,  Mabel Jones, Lillian Rittinger, Bill, Gerald, Gene and Ralph Cann. Octa is survived by three children, Karen (the late George Schock) Houston, Anita (Craig) Magnarini and Allen Stone; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Houston, Julie Houston, Jeri Houston, Ian (Mallory) Magnarini, Tyler Magnarini, Craig Stone, Jeremy Stone and Michelle Stone; three great-grandchildren, Brendan Houston, Bailey Houston and Hailie Stone; one sister, Norma Jolly. Visitation Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Alexandria Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery, Mentor, KY. Sandra L. Wright

Sandra L. Wright (nee Gulick), 67, of Silver Grove, KY, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 at Indianspring of Oakley. Sandy was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 47 years,  Rickey J. Wright; three children, Aimee Fathergill, Shaun Wright and Jamie Wright; nine grandchildren, Katelyn, Joshua, Alexis, Latem, Raelynn, Britini, Abagail and Robbie; two great-grandchildren, Easton and Kenasyn; an uncle, Robert Gulick. A visitation and celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at the Alexandria Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Elsie Marie Arkenau (nee Walter), 97, of California, KY, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. Elsie was a homemaker and a former employee of Auveco during World War II.   She was a member of Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish, Victory Club, Silver Belles & Beaus, Kings & Queens, The Limburger Bunch and Saint Mary Seniors. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 49 ½ years, Dorse Lee “Scout” Arkenau, grandson, Todd Geiger, sister, Viola Kool and a brother, Irvin Walter. She is survived by five children, Wanda (Harry Case) Nelson, Anita (Stanley) Geiger, Wayne (Lee) Arkenau, Elaine (David) Frank and Marcia (David) Ampfer, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and 2 step grandsons.  Visitation Monday, July 31, 2017 at Saint Mary of the Assumption Church, Alexandria, KY from 10:00 AM – 11:15 AM with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:30 AM. Thelma M. Stokes

Thelma M. Stokes, age 95, of Ft. Thomas, KY passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospice, Edgewood, KY.  Thelma was a former interior decorator for Mill End Gallery, Cincinnati, OH and a member of Highland United Methodist Church, Ft. Thomas, KY.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Stokes in 1981.  She is survived by five daughters, Joy Powers, Jenetta Anderson, Denise Richards, Deborah (Gary) Grill, and Robyn (Tom) Endres; son, Kevin (Amy) Stokes; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Alexandria Funeral Home on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 11am to 12pm with the Funeral Service immediately following at the funeral home at 12pm.  Interment will follow in the Mt. Lucian "Lou" Carl Placke Sr.

Lucian “Lou” Carl Placke Sr., 91, of Cold Spring, KY, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. Lou was founder of Alexandria Tire of Alexandria, KY. He was a member of Saint Mary of the Assumption Church and a WWII Navy Veteran. Lou was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth B. Placke (nee Wesdorp). He is survived by his children, Janice (Late Ed) Brown, Deborah Sinclair, Rebecca (Jeff) Baron, Lisa (Larry) Snyder and Lucian Carl Placke Jr.; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Jean Smith

Jean Smith (nee Sebastian), age 76, of Cold Spring, KY passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 16, 2017. Jean was a former cafeteria worker for the DAV and a member of Summit Church of Christ, Cold Spring, KY.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Lynn Smith and siblings, Wilson Sebastian, Edith Arkenau, and Dorothy McIntosh. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Nelson Smith; three sons, David (Debbie), Doug (Rachel), and Darrell (Michelle) Smith; six brothers, Daniel, Oscar, Truman, Freedis, Herman, and Robert Sebastian; two sisters, Juanita Sargent and Geneva Herald; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Alexandria Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 5pm to 8pm.  Funeral Service will be held at the Alexandria Funeral Home on Thursday, July 20th at 11am. Interment will follow at the Alexandria Cemetery.

Eugene Partin

Eugene Partin, age 87, of Erlanger, KY passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Edgewood, KY.  Eugene enjoyed woodcarving, fishing, and hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Ann Partin in 2006. He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Regina) Partin, Mark Partin, Richard Partin, Andrew (Rhonda) Partin, and Bryan (Becky) Rouse; daughters, Kathy Applegate, Robin Goins, and Brenda (David) Netto; sister, Clara Sulfridge; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 8:30am to 10:00am with the Funeral Service immediately following at 10:00am at the Alexandria Funeral Home, 325 Washington St., Alexandria, KY 41001. Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, KY.

Jerry Reis

Jerry Reis, age 51, of Alexandria, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at St. Elizabeth, Ft. Thomas.  Jerry was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Falmouth, KY.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo “Tip” and Margaret Reis. Jerry is survived by his son, Dylan (Amanda) Reis; daughter, Isabella Reis; siblings, Ruth Carolyn (Donald) Baker, Susan (Sam) Murrell, Barbara (Buck) Woods, Frances (the late Randy) Reitman, James (Donna) Reis, and Nancy (Tim) Voss; grandchildren, Layton and Jolene Reis; also survived by several nieces and nephews.  A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 6:00 PM.  Memorial Donations are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Church, 202 2nd St, Falmouth, KY 41040.  Arrangements entrusted to Alexandria Funeral Home.

Glen Miller

Glen Alan Miller, 55, of Fort Smith, Arkansas (formerly Erlanger, KY) passed away on July 3, 2017. Glen led Northern Kentucky schools not just in the classroom where he inspired students to learn and succeed but also at the helm of school districts where he placed students first by enabling school districts to have modern facilities and provide exceptional learning opportunities for students. Glen spent 27 years at Beechwood Independent School District as a technology coordinator, teacher, principal, and superintendent; and he recently retired as superintendent from Campbell County Schools. Glen led Beechwood Independent School District to become a nationally recognized school with top educational merits while being instrumental in revitalizing and modernizing Beechwood’s facilities. While at Campbell County Schools, Glen continued to provide leadership in enhancing learning opportunities for students with the opening of a new state-of-the-art technology center. Glen will be well-remembered for his great sense of humor and ability to make others laugh. He is survived by his daughter, Alicia Miller, and four brothers. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14 at the Alexandria Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to Oneida Baptist Institute, PO Box 67, Oneida, KY 40972-0067.
