This man was such a memorable part of my growing up years back in the sixties.
ReplyDeleteI spent much of my summer vacation fishing at Dietz's Lakes. Dad would drop me off on his way to work and would pick me up that evenings his way home.
Steamed glazed doughnuts in the morning and grilled cheese for lunch. I always fished the smaller lake on the far side, because it was stocked with carp, which were bigger and harder fighters than channel cats.
I especially loved fishing there at night on weekends.
Dick was a big broad shouldered man with a deep voice back then, who always showed me and my friends kindness and courtesy, even though we were just a bunch of high school kids.

I spent many years around Rich while having a fishing cabin with my family at Dietz's Lakes. Rich and Dot were wonderful people to be around and they had a good relationship with my parents Gene and Patty Matthews. Some of my fondest memories are from the years we spent there, countless hours of fishing to playing basketball, wiffle ball, and man-hunt with Johnny,Scott,Elliot, and Jenny. I am very sorry for your loss, believe me I know it is not easy to lose a parent or grand-parent. Just remember all the good times you all had with Rich and smile. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
