James William Reis

James William Reis, 65, of Alexandria, Kentucky, passed away on October 28th, 2016 at the Baptist Center, Newport after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a writer-reporter for the KY Post for 36 years covering 12 counties across Northern KY. Jim was a renowned historian of Northern Kentucky history. His column Pieces of the Past ran from 1982 to 2006. Jim also wrote several books, Pieces of the Past 1, 2, 3 and 4 and also Then and Now: Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky book. Jim was the recipient of the Two Headed Calf award in 2014 from the Behringer-Crawford Museum and the Lifetime Dedication to Kentucky History award in 2010 from The Kentucky Historical Society. He was the retired vice president and board member of the Campbell County Historical Society and one of the founders of Northern Kentucky History Day at NKU. He was also on the Committee of the Northern Kentucky African-American Heritage Task Force. He had contributed to the Kentucky Encyclopedia, to Campbell County Kentucky, 200 Years, 1774-1994, and to the Encyclopedia of Northern Kentucky. He was a graduate of Thomas More College. Jim was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish and a former Eucharistic minister. Jim is survived by his wife, Jan (Rose) and two sons, Jason (Laura) of Independence, Kentucky and Jeff (Stephanie) of New York, New York and also two granddaughters, Chloe Lynn Reis and Abigail Nichole Reis. He is also survived by his mother, Ruth Reis of Fort Thomas, brothers, Ken of Grant’s Lick and David of Southgate and sisters, Donna Taylor of Fort Thomas and Patti Neltner of Alexandria. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM Thursday, November 3rd, 2016 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church with Mass of the Christian Burial following at 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at the St. Stephen Cemetery Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass at 7388 Turfway Road, Florence, KY 41042 or Parkinson Support and Wellness, 260 Stetson St., Suite 2300, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219. Jack "Rocky" Reynolds

Jack “Rocky” Harper Reynolds, age 82, of Florence, KY, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 . Jack is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Jean Reynolds (nee Deaton); daughter, Jacquelyn (Ryan) Sturdivant and three loving grandchildren, Mason William, Madison Claire and Marlee Grace Sturdivant. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all. Jack served in the US Navy. He loved bowling and golf and was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan. Jack worked in the electronics industry. He enjoyed traveling and watching his grandchildren playing sports. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and an active member of his church. Jack was always there to help friends and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harper and Myrtle (nee Lloyd) Reynolds; and sisters, Opal O’Hara, June Darcell and Sylvia Reynolds. A special thank you to the St. Elizabeth Home Hospice for their loving care and support. A celebration of his life will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 29 at the Alexandria Funeral Home, Alexandria, KY. Jack will be laid to rest at the Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice. 

Thomas E. Cade

Thomas E. Cade, age 77, of Alexandria, KY, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at his residence. Tom was a retired maintenance supervisor for UPS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Rosella (nee Truesdale) Cade and his first wife, Patricia Cade. Tom is survived by his wife, Edith Cade; son, Brett (Jacqueline) Cade; siblings, Dan (Pam) Cade and Rosie (Ron) Fardo; grandchildren, Brandt (Jennifer) Cade and Brittany Cade (David) Hollaender; 4 great-grandchildren. Visitation Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ of Alexandria from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM with funeral service immediately following at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati.

Ida Norene Justus

Ida Norene Justus, age 81, of Alexandria, KY passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Buck” Justus in 1991; parents, Charles Herbert and Loretta (nee Lester) Lowe; sister, Ada Fernandez; five brothers, Don, Raymond, Benny, Bill and Tommy Lowe. Norene is survived by her son, Terry Justus; granddaughter, Christa Justus. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 9am to 11am at the Alexandria Funeral Home with the Funeral Service immediately following at 11am. Burial will be in the Alexandria Cemetery.

Keith A. "Sprouty" Glahn Sr.

Keith A. “Sprouty” Glahn Sr., age 81, of Cold Spring, KY, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at Saint Elizabeth Fort Thomas. He was a retired plant manager at Ceramic Coating Company of Wilder, KY, an Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of Campbell County VFW Post # 3205 and had Keith Glahn & Sons Water Hauling business. Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Glahn (nee Stockton) and a son, Keith “Jay” Glahn Jr. He is survived by his children, Robin (Randy) Perkins, Patricia Glahn, Mark Glahn and Michelle (Bob) Davis; siblings, Norma Crouch, Gladys Ruf, Ervin and Bill Glahn; 11 grandchildren, Gregory Glahn, John Maggard, Jessica Padgett, TSgt Brian Maggard USAF, Jodi Glahn, Jena Jack, Marissa Glahn, Sarah Boschert, Mackenzie Glahn, Jordan Boschert and Markus Glahn and 10 great-grandchildren. Catherine "Ruth" West

Catherine “Ruth” West (nee Schnitzler), age 93, of California, KY, passed away October 13, 2016 at Saint Elizabeth Fort Thomas. Ruth was a retired Deputy Matron at the Campbell County Jail. She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo T. West “2003”. Ruth is survived by a son, Ernie Schnitzler; siblings, David Schnitzler, Gail Schnitzler, Martha Paynter, JoAnn Keeler and Norman Schnitzler; grandchildren, Nathan Schnitzler and his fiancĂ©e, Brandy Kimmel and Missy Williams and her husband, Russell. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Alexandria Funeral Home from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00 PM. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery.  

Joan Pfeffer

Joan Pfeffer (nee Ervin) age 78, of Alexandria, KY, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at home. She was a retired seamstress. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Elizabeth (nee Russell) Ervin; her husband, Ronald Pfeffer and a brother, Roy Ervin. She is survived by 2 nieces, Diahanne Spooner and Kelly Bargerhuf; nephew, William Ervin; aunt and uncle Judy and Jim Russell. Alberta Mae Sims

Alberta Mae Sims (nee Kohls), age 81,  of Alexandria, KY, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Saint Elizabeth Fort Thomas. Alberta was a retired employee of Western Southern. She was an avid softball player and was the first woman ever to be inducted into the National Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, OK. Alberta was preceded in death by parents, Harry B. and Phyllis (nee Veerkamp) Kohls; her husband, Carroll Sims in 1974;  her son, Kevin Sims, 6 days prior to her death, on September 30, 2016 in Seattle, WA; two brothers, Alfred and David Kohls; two sisters, Patricia Kohls and Jo Ann King. Alberta is survived by three sisters, Betty Kohls, Marilyn Kerns and Harriett (Sanford) Record; one brother, Bill (Joanne) Kohls and 21 beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Saint Joseph Church, Camp Springs from 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM with a joint Mass for Alberta and Kevin following at 3:00 PM. Mildred Alford

Mildred Lou Alford, 90, of Cold Spring, KY, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, OH. Mildred was the former Director of Personnel at Lakeside Place Nursing Home formerly in Highland Heights, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Emerson Alford in 2005, a daughter, Donna Alford in 1974 and a granddaughter, Kimberly Gibson in 2009. Mildred is survived by children, Ron Alford, Teri Vallandingham, Susan (Barry) Jolly, Judy Heilman, Tami (Jeff) Trunick and Corey Strickley; brother, Louis Schmidt; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Alexandria Funeral Home from 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM with funeral service immediately following at 1:30 PM. William "Bill" Tarvin

William E. “Bill” Tarvin, age 64 of Clifton Park, NY (formerly of Melbourne, KY) passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at his home. Born on January 14, 1952, he was the son of Zelia E. Tarvin and the late Roy T. Tarvin. Bill retired from CSX after 37 years of service. Following retirement, he owned and operated Tarvin Consulting Services LLC out of his home. He also worked at Saratoga Engineering and RWT; where he taught training for railroad safety. Bill was an avid Jeep enthusiast and was a longtime member of the Mohawk Offroad Jeep Club. He also enjoyed woodworking and house boating along with his wife. He loved wildlife and had pet birds with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen Tarvin: mother, Zelia Tarvin; sisters Rose Ann Tarvin Deckert and Mary (William) Kinsella; nieces and nephews, Katherine, Nicholas, and Michael (Linda). Visitation will be held at the Alexandria Funeral Home on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 9am to 11am with burial immediately following in Mount Gilead Cemetery, Carthage, KY.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the ALS Association, PO Box 6051, Albert Lea, MN 56007, or by going to www.alsa.org.

Marilyn K. Baker

Marilyn K. Baker, age 70, of Alexandria, KY passed away on October 4, 2016.  She is survived by her brother, Bill (Paula) Baker; sister, Brenda (Dennis) Gosney; niece, Allyson Bosse; her nephew, Michael (Kristen) Baker; great-nephews and great-nieces, Michael and Ella Bosse and Maggie and Owen Baker; and many, many cherished cousins, friends and adopted nieces and nephews.  Throughout her life Marilyn surrounded herself with love, becoming a friend to all she met.  She cherished her family and was quick to welcome many of her friends into it.  She loved travel and Kentucky Basketball and for over a decade travelled to nearly every postseason UK game to cheer on her Wildcats.  Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm at Plum Creek Christian Church, 961 Nagel Rd, Butler, KY 41006. A second visitation will be held at Plum Creek Christian Church on Saturday, October 8th from 9am to 10am with the Funeral Service immediately following at 10am. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grant’s Lick, KY.  Memorial donations are suggested to the United Way or Oakland Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.  Arrangements entrusted to Alexandria Funeral Home.

Eric Raney

Eric William Raney, 12, of Alexandria, KY, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Children’s Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH. He was a 7th grade student at Campbell County Middle School, Alexandria, KY. Eric was a member of Boy Scout Troop #96 of Alexandria, KY, he enjoyed playing soccer and loved building things with his Legos. Eric is survived by his parents, Paul and Michele (Spangler) Raney; two brothers, Ryan and Zachary Raney; grandparents Mike and Debbie Spangler, Pam Raney-Kraft and Paul Blake; great grandmothers, Joyce Hungler and Marie Spangler. Memorial Visitation  will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Campbell County Middle School Gymnasium from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
