Harold J. Ziegler, Jr., 88, of Alexandria, KY, passed away at his home on Monday, October 23, 2017. Harold was a graduate of Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, KY. He was active on the football team, in track and field, and he held several school and greater Cincinnati records for pole vaulting. He was the Kentucky State Pole Vault Champion in 1946 and 1947. His devotion to UK basketball and Highlands football was legendary and lifelong. Harold was a salesman, farmer, and retired bus driver for Campbell County Schools. He operated one of the first commercial vineyards in Northern Kentucky, and his farm was the site of many family celebrations and spirited Wiffle Ball tournaments. Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ruth (Combs) Ziegler, in 2010. Harold is survived by three daughters: Valarie Hope Ziegler (Bill Nunn, Jr.), Carole Anne Ziegler (Rachael Winters), and Susan Lea LeCates; and five grandchildren: Teddy and Evan Roach, Iris, Ian, and Aiden LeCates. The family especially thanks those friends who brightened Harold’s later years: loyal neighbors Don and Trinett Kuper as well as Jim Shearer and all the gang at Harold’s beloved Sand Trap. Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Alexandria Funeral Home from 12:00-1:00 pm, followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 7388 Turfway Road, Florence, KY 41042.
